Celebrating Marriage

In a Time of Crisis

At this time of uncertainty, many of us are finding a source of reassurance and serenity in the rediscovered blessings of marriage. Since the extended Gianna family has certainly benefited from these blessings, we thought we would share with you a few images and quotes that reaffirm the God-given gift of marriage. This is a gift at the very heart of the Gianna mission and we are privileged to be able to help so many to treasure it.

“This love is above all fully human… it is meant not only to survive the joys and sorrows of daily life, but also to grow, so that husband and wife become in a way one heart and one soul, and together attain their human fulfillment.”

Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI

 “Marriage is the Nursery of Heaven;
the Virgin sends Prayers to God,
but she carries but one soul to him;
the State of Marriage… hath in it the Labour of Love,
and the Delicacies of Friendship, the Blessing of Society,
and the Union of Hands and Hearts; it hath in it less of Beauty,
but more of Safety, than the Single Life;
it hath more Care, but less Danger;
it is more Merry, and more Sad;
is fuller of Sorrows, and fuller of Joys;
it lies under more Burdens, but is supported
by all the Strengths of Love and Charity,
and those Burdens are delightful.”

Jeremy Taylor
“The Marriage Ring”

“Jesus announced the advent of His Kingdom as one of tenderness and intimacy.  He speaks of a God whose love, mercy, and forgiveness is extravagant, limitless, and without reservation.  He is a God of concern who is totally and permanently faithful in bringing Creation to fulfillment by constantly drawing us back to Himself, the source of all goodness.  Since marriage is the living, tangible, sacramental sign of this love, these characteristics are to be expressed and experienced in the marital relationship.  You have been chosen and called, therefore, as husbands and wives to be for one another the living experiential sign and expression of God’s love by sharing with each other the gifts of uncompromising love, unconditional acceptance, ceaseless dedication, total fidelity, and untiring service.  These are the signs of God’s love and this is what makes God present in the Sacrament of Matrimony.”
